Sunday, I watched a news show that tried to shed light on the economic situation of youths today. There conclusion were based on a gathering of young entrepreneurs in Ottawa. According to the analyst and his guest (an economic specialist), youths of today are optimistic about there future. Furthermore, the invited guest told viewers that many opportunities await today's youths.
What upset me about this television show is that these two baby boomers made generalizing comments about today's youths from a gathering of young entrepreneurs. I am sorry but our generation is composed of individuals and not cows that follow blindly a herd. You can't make a generalizing comment about our generation from a gathering of young entrepreneurs!
I am not a specialist in economics but I am somewhat perplexed by a optimistic forecast that propose a wealth of opportunities for youths in today'a economic environment. As far as I know, unemployment is very high among youths. Were are all those jobs? It is true that the high tech industry is experiencing a boom. However, this sector is capital intensive and not people intensive. I hope that the optimistic hypothesis about our future is true but I stop believing in Santa Claus a long time ago.
